My Journey to Sobriety and Jesus

Greetings! My name is Robert Rodrigues, and I am the co-founder of Fruit of the Spirit Ministries Inc., based in Modesto, California. My life has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by dramatic ups and downs, but it has led me to where I am today - a place of peace, service, and devotion to God. Let me share my journey with you.

Adolescence and Addiction

When I entered adolescence, I found myself on a rocky road of alcoholism and drug use. This was a chaotic period in my life, characterized by an intense struggle with addiction. It was a dark time, but it was also a time that would ultimately shape who I am today.

A Wake-up Call

On a fateful day, I was involved in a major car accident with my daughter in the car. In that terrifying moment, I heard the Lord whisper in my ear, "This will be your last chance." This was a wake-up call, a moment of divine intervention that would set me on a different path.

Deliverance and Discovery

On July 21st, 2007, the Lord delivered me from my addictions. I woke up that morning feeling different, feeling free. I embarked on a quest of self-discovery, trying to understand who I was without the influence of alcohol and drugs. It was a tough journey, but one that was necessary for my growth.

Love and Partnership

In 2010, I met the woman who would become my wife. Together, we formed Fruit of the Spirit Ministries Inc. in 2017. We have been working side by side, serving with help of church family and friends, the homeless community in our neighborhood and collaborating with Gospel Mission Modesto.

International Experiences

Our work has taken us far and wide. We have had the incredible opportunity to travel internationally, meeting extraordinary people from all walks of life. These interactions have enriched our lives and deepened our understanding of humanity.

Support and Recovery

Despite the challenges of my past, or perhaps because of them, I have found my calling in facilitating a support and recovery group. My background of alcoholism has made me the perfect candidate to help others going through similar struggles. Hearing the testimonies from these people and seeing the transformative power of the Lord in their lives brings me immense joy. This 10-step program, which some of you may know as The Way, has proven to be a beacon of hope for many.

Conclusion

My journey from addiction to sobriety, from despair to hope, and from isolation to community, has been a testament to the power of faith and the human spirit. Through the highs and lows, I have learned the value of resilience, compassion, and service. I hope that by sharing my story, I can inspire others who may be battling their own demons. Remember, it's never too late to change your life's trajectory.
